Whether recreational or competitive in nature, Norfolk Christian Schools’ sports programs are geared to facilitate physical growth and complement a well-rounded Christian education. To that end, NCS offers a wide range of sports programs at the Varsity, Junior Varsity, JJV and Middle School levels. Beginning in 6th grade, our students can choose from baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball and wrestling. Norfolk Christian is committed to the value of a well-rounded Christian education. Physical development and growth is one of the three key elements that enable us to meet that goal. We encourage all of our students to participate in athletics through which they can glorify the Lord on the athletic fields and courts with their God-given abilities and gifts, learn new skills, bond with classmates and learn healthy habits that can last them a lifetime. Athletics help educate our children to care for and respect their bodies and the importance of achieving and maintaining good health, while teaching the valuable lessons of teamwork, sportsmanship, friendly competition and leadership. Norfolk Christian High School is an active member of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools (TCIS), the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA) and the National Christian Schools Athletic Association (NCSAA).
Teams and sports offered are as follows: Grades 6-8 are eligible for Junior Junior Varsity (JJV) and Middle School (MS) Grades 7-10 are eligible for Junior Varsity (JV) Grades 8-12 are eligible for Varsity (V) (MS) is the introductory level for athletes, which provides quality instruction and the early development of an athlete’s talents. At this level, we teach: fundamental skills (including those related to safety on the field and court); character traits (persistence, dependability, dedication, self-control, teamwork and sportsmanlike behavior), while encouraging the active participation of each player. (JJV) is for advanced levels in grades 6-8 (and 9 in football). This is the next step in an athlete’s development, with an emphasis equally weighted between individual progress and team success. (JV) and (V) teams are primarily for grades 9-12, but do include some middle school athletes as well. At this level we are striving to field high-quality, successfully competitive teams in all sports, through the further development of character, athletic skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.
