HIGH SCHOOL

Introduction

The Middle and High School levels of learning (grades 6-12) comprise the NCS Upper School, which seeks to address the unique academic and spiritual needs of the adolescent and teen-aged student.

High School is the “final frontier” for equipping students for higher education and instilling a life-long love of learning. Daily Bible instruction, mentoring and weekly chapels reinforce spiritual development, and extracurricular activities underscore academics, athletic accomplishment and community service.

Advanced Placement English, Government, Calculus and Science are offered to selected juniors and seniors each year. Honors English classes are available to grades 9 – 11 and Advanced Placement English to grade 12.

PSAT/ SAT/ ACT

The testing program at NCHS is designed to aid the school in assessing its programs and the student in planning his or her own individual program. To this end, the guidance department administers a series of achievement and aptitude tests to students.

The Stanford Achievement test is given in April through grade 9 and includes the Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT). The PSAT is administered at Norfolk Christian in October to all students in grades 10 and 11.  Starting in 2009 – 2010, we will adopt the ACT Explore (8th grade) and Plan (10th grade) to assist the guidance department with career planning and college readiness.  This program culminates with the ACT in April of the junior year.  The guidance department registers and pays for all juniors to take the April ACT.
