Remembering Jim Hinshaw

Few people in Norfolk Christian’s history have touched more lives than Jim Hinshaw. Even after his 40 years of teaching, coaching, and mentoring high schoolers came to an end in 2006, he remained a regular on campus – cheering on our sports teams, encouraging our staff, and lifting our community up to the Lord in the prayer chapel that bears his name.

For four decades, he taught students Bible and Government, but they learned so much more from him than anything they read in a textbook. They learned what a privilege and responsibility it is to have the right to vote; they learned that they could trust God to be exactly Who He says He is in His Word; and they learned what it looks like to boldly approach His throne of grace in prayer. These were lessons that came not from studying a chapter, but from watching a humble servant of the Lord live out the faith he held so dear. And of course, they learned a little about Alabama football along the way.

We will miss Mr. Hinshaw’s wisdom and the giant, boyish grin that he never lost. But we rejoice knowing he is now grinning with His Savior and enjoying an eternal reward beyond our comprehension.

Thank you for honoring Jim’s memory and carrying on his legacy of equipping Ambassadors for Christ at Norfolk Christian.
