Honoring Ambassadors from Every Generation
Through generous donors, Norfolk Christian is pleased to offer seven scholarships to current NCS students and alumni. Three contribute to Norfolk Christian tuition or special programming for NCS students in rising grades 9 through 11.
The remaining four scholarships contribute toward college tuition for graduating NCS seniors or alumni.
Make a difference for some of Norfolk Christian’s most diligent students while you honor cherished staff and alumni.

TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP
THE GRACE MUTZABAUGH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to Rising NCS Seniors
• Applied towards NCS Tuition
Purpose
In 2013, one of Ms. Mutzabaugh’s former students, Dr. Caralee Capone, and her husband Howard Bethel, established an endowed scholarship to honor Grace Mutzabaugh and others like her who positively impact the lives of the students in their classroom. This award seeks to encourage Norfolk Christian students who desire to continue this teaching legacy as their vocation.
Eligibility
• NCS Junior reenrolled as a Senior at NCS
• Has an interest in pursuing a post-secondary education in the field of teaching, especially one seeking to teach at the elementary school level
Award
The $1500 Award will be applied to the student’s Norfolk Christian senior year tuition. The student accepting this scholarship also accepts a one-semester internship at one of the Norfolk Christian Lower School campuses.
WORSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
THE MARK RODRIGUEZ MEMORIAL WORSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to Rising NCS Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors
• Applied towards pursuits to enhance your gift
Purpose
This scholarship is given in honor of NCS junior Mark Rodriguez, who went to be with the Lord in 2014, on his way home from Norfolk Christian’s graduation ceremony. This award encourages other students to follow Mark’s example of relentlessly pursuing Jesus and leading others into his Savior’s presence through worship.
Eligibility
• NCS Rising 9th-11th Grader reenrolled at NCS
• Exhibits a heart for leading others in worship. Must be endorsed by the director of Fine Arts at NCS. Other key attributes of a qualified applicant include: passion, leadership, teach-ability, calling, giftedness, and potential for growth and development.
Award
The $1000 Award will cover extracurricular activities, classes, and equipment that enhance the student’s abilities to lead worship at Norfolk Christian and/or pursue future opportunities at the collegiate or professional level.
MINISTRY SCHOLARSHIP
THE BARB THIERRY SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to Rising NCS Seniors
• Applied towards NCS Tuition
Purpose
In 2014, an endowed scholarship was established in the name of Barb Thierry by a former student, Dr. Caralee Capone, and her husband Howard Bethel. It is designed to honor Ms. Thierry’s legacy by encouraging Norfolk Christian students in their pursuit of Christian ministry and/or ongoing education at a Christian college or university.
Eligibility
• NCS Junior reenrolled as a Senior at NCS
• Has an interest in a career in Christian ministry
• OR seeks to attend a Christian college or university
Award
The $1500 Award will be applied to the student’s Norfolk Christian senior year tuition.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP
THE VIRGINIA MAE MIDKIFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to Graduating NCS Seniors
• Applied towards College Tuition
Purpose
In 2014, this scholarship was created by daughter and alumna, Carolyn Midkiff Strahl ‘69 to honor her mother’s legacy as a teacher by encouraging students to pursue high academic achievement. Virginia Midkiff prayed daily that anyone, from students to strangers, who encountered her, would see Jesus in her life.
Eligibility
• Graduating NCS Senior
• Accepted into a four-year college
• Good academic standing, GPA of 3.5 or better
• Demonstrates a life that lives out Matthew 5:16: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Award
The $1000 Award will be sent directly to the student’s College Tuition account.
FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
THE JENNI PREVETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to Graduating NCS Seniors
• Applied towards College Tuition
Purpose
To show their love for Jenni and her family, the NCS Class of 1991 established this scholarship to honor a graduating senior who embodies the qualities of Jenni’s life by demonstrating excellence in Christian character and academics, with participation in the fine arts, and ultimately the award is to glorify the Lord whom Jenni knew and served.
Eligibility
• Graduating NCS Senior
• Accepted into a four-year college
• Good academic standing
• Embodies the qualities of Jenni’s life: excellence in Christian character and academic pursuit and love for the fine arts
Award
The $1000 Award will be sent directly to the student’s College Tuition account.
FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
THE CATHY TURNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to Graduating NCS Seniors
• Applied towards College Tuition
Purpose
Established by the Turner family in 2009 to benefit Norfolk Christian graduates who embody Cathy’s passion for music, the choral arts, and also foster the character and spiritual attributes which Cathy championed in her students and exemplified in her own life as a servant leader.
Eligibility
• Graduating NCS Senior
• Accepted into a four-year college
• Has a passion for music and wants to pursue fine arts in education beyond high school
• Demonstrates servant leadership and pursues the highest standard of both personal integrity and academic achievement. Most importantly, they must have a deep and abiding faith in God
Award
The $2500 Award will be sent directly to the student’s College Tuition account.
Scholarship for Alumni in College or Graduating Seniors

NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
THE ELIZABETH “BETTY” K. JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
• Open to NCS Alumni and Graduating Seniors
• Applied towards College Tuition
Purpose
Elizabeth “Betty” K. Jones Memorial Scholarship was established by husband Charlie, son Wes, and grandson Gunnar, to honor the memory of Betty by promoting the education of alumni or graduating seniors of Norfolk Christian Schools.
Eligibility
• Graduating NCS Senior OR NCS Alumna/us
• Admitted and/or accepted into a BSN program
• Good academic standing
• Scholars are expected to conduct themselves in a way that brings honor to themselves, Norfolk Christian Schools and above all, Jesus Christ
Award
The $2500 Award will be sent directly to the student’s College Tuition account.
